Big 12 Football Preview – Kansas

Kansas. They’ve become a nationally-known brand of college football, in the worst way. In the last 10 seasons, Kansas has won a whopping 30 games. 12 of those were in 2007, when they were, for all intents and purposes, one win away from competing for a national championship.

The Kansas coaching situation, since their firing, of, the legendary, Mark Mangino, is comparable to the OSU basketball coaching carousel post-Eddie Sutton and pre-Mike Boynton. It’s widely believed that David Beatty is on the infamous “hot-seat” a term synonymous with Kansas Football. Beatty probably needs to win about 4 games to keep his job. Read that sentence again … 4 games. That’s the current standard of Kansas Football. And, looking at their schedule, that is viable. Their non-con schedule pits Nicholls State, Central Michigan, and, perhaps, the only FBS team worse than Kansas, Rutgers (!!). And of course, in the Big 12 schedule they’ll face Baylor and Texas Tech. Both are winnable games for the Jayhawks.

You can take a look at their complete schedule below.

9/1 … 6:00 p.m. … Nicholls State

9/8 … 2:00 p.m. … Central Michigan

9/15 … 11:00 a.m. … Rutgers

9/22 … @ Baylor

9/29 … Oklahoma State

10/6 … @ West Virginia

10/20 … @ Texas Tech

10/27 … TCU

11/3 … Iowa State

11/10 … @ Kansas State

11/17 … @ Oklahoma

11/23 … Texas

The Kansas Jayhawks offense will be guided by former Oklahoma State player, and coach, Doug Meacham, for the second season. The KU offense showed flashes of brilliance last year, so, perhaps, the fruits of Meacham’s labor will show more this season.

There’s not a lot to say about Kansas. It’s as simple as that. Until they actually come to the table and compete, they’ll continue to be the team that nobody is excited to play.

I will say, Kansas has some pretty great helmets and their marching band is under appreciated!
