The Oklahoma State baseball team finished a .500, 2-2 week.
The Pokes faced Wichita State on Tuesday, inside Reynolds Stadium. Oklahoma State had lost to the Shockers the previous Wednesday, but had, what seemed to be, a safe lead in the home game. A Gunnar Troutwine three-run-bomb in the ninth sealed the deal for the 10-7 Shocker win.
Oklahoma State traveled to West Virginia for a weekend series in the Alleghenies. With all the momentum in the world, Oklahoma State looked for a third straight sweep. Instead, they settled for a third straight Big 12 baseball series. Not a bad prize at all, considering the quality of baseball in the Big 12 this year.
Friday, the bats led the way for the Pokes in their win over the Mountaineers. The Cowboys seven runs and eight hits propelled them to a 7-4 win over WVU in the first game of the series.
Momentum saved the day for the Mountaineers on Saturday. Oklahoma State’s Saturday pitcher, Carson Teel, showed rare struggles. The Cowboys scored first with one run in the first, but gave up a six-spot to West Virginia in the first inning. Oklahoma State crept closer to the Mountaineers through some timely hits, but could not quite get the job done in the 10-7 loss, snapping their seven-game Big 12 winning streak.
On Sunday, Oklahoma State found themselves down early. The Cowboys posted three straight goose eggs to West Virginia’s three runs. A three-spot in the sixth tied the game. Two OSU runs in the seventh sealed the deal for the conference series win.
NEXT UP Oklahoma State comes home for a four game home stand. They’ll face Oral Roberts, Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.. OSU is scheduled to play Kansas for a weekend series at Reynolds Stadium. The weather forecast is less than ideal in Oklahoma for the weekend.
