Energy FC out battle Timbers 2 to win two in a row at home.
After a physical first half where two yellow cards were called, both on the Timbers, the second half was where the Energy found their footing, scoring twice in the half. 10 minutes into the second half the first goal of the match was scored by Daniel Gonzalez on a rebound shot in the 54th minute.
Then the Timbers answered scoring just five minutes later to tie the match. Timbers forward, Victor Arboleda made a shot around Energy goalie Cody Laurendi to tie it 1-1.
In the 75th minute, Miguel Gonzalez crossed the ball into the box and Mickey Daly headed the ball into the back of the net to for the winning goal.
Wednesday’s win is the third in a row for the Energy moving their record to just under .500 at 3-4-1. With the loss, the Timbers fell to 1-8-1.
On tonight’s performance, Energy FC head coach Jimmy Nielsen said, “I’m proud and I’m happy that’s well-deserved, that’s three wins in a row now.” Nielsen continued to say, “I’m happy with the outcome, there’s definitely room for improvement… I am happy to see we can win in different ways, we can win in a nice way and we can win in a battle.”
The next Energy FC match is a week later at the Colorado Switchbacks FC for the U.S. Open Cup and then on June third, the Energy play the Switchbacks FC again for their regularly scheduled match.
The next home match for the Energy is on June sixth at 7:30 p.m. against Phoenix FC.
