A Triple-Double isn’t Enough

By Shayden Smith

Russell Westbrook’s 39th triple-double of this late season was bittersweet to say the least. The OKC Thunder were up by more than 20 at one point in the game, but the San Antonio Spurs had different plans Friday night.

OKC’s own superhuman with incredible style has been giving all he has in the Thunder’s previous games. I literally almost destroyed my roommates TV after watching the ending of that Dallas game, but that’s not what I’m here to talk about. Westbrook has been carrying his team all season. Not saying the other Thunder players have been slacking, but you’re going to need more than beautiful stache’s to win a championship.

Westbrook ended the game against the Spurs with 32 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists. Not only giving him his 39th triple-double of the season, but putting him just two triple-doubles away from tying Oscar Robertson’s historic record. And people are still wondering who should win the MVP? In the words of the great Charles Barkley… “That’s Turrible.”

Westbrook did all he could to give the Thunder a victory Friday night, but it wasn’t enough. Enes Kanter only had 11 points off the bench, shooting just five of 14 from the field. Not his best game, but still a solid contribution off the bench. Victor Oladipo finished with 16 points, off seven of 17. The Thunder had a rough game shooting from beyond the arc at just 28.6 percent. Honestly, this wasn’t a horrible game for the Thunder, but whenever there is a Kawhi Leonard on the other side of the court, nothing is going to come easy. The worst part about the Thunder losing Friday night is that Leonard probably still won’t crack a smile, even when coming back from 21 down.

OKC fans everywhere thought they had the game in the bag, but Leonard and the Spurs came roaring back. At least Westbrook still got the triple-double, right? Thunder fall 95 – 100.
