A Thunderous Night

By Shayden Smith

What do the Cleveland Cavaliers need to become a great team? Because they are so terrible, right? Let’s be honest, the Cavs don’t need anything. They’re a great team who just won the NBA championship. LeBron James says they need a “playmaker.” You’re LeBron James. One of the greatest basketball players on the planet, and probably the best passing small forward out there. Saying they need a playmaker makes it sound like James is scared to face the Warriors in the Finals again. Well, you know who they should be scared of? Russell Westbrook. The Cavs came into OKC Thursday night, thinking this would be an easy win, to take on the Thunder.

Westbrook is a beast. Period. Do I really need to say more? Is it going to surprise anyone if I said Westbrook had another triple-double? Of course not. Westbrook finished the evening with 29 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, giving him is 26th triple-double of the season. He also finished the night with four steals. Is there anything this guy can’t do? I think Westbrook could break both his legs, and then go get a 40 point triple-double in 30 minutes of play. We could all see that happen.

Now that we got all that out of the way, let’s talk about the real story. Alex Abrines posterized Tristan Thompson. I’m going to say that again. Alex Abrines posterized Tristan Thompson. Now that I got that out of my system, let’s talk about Cameron Payne. Payne had what looked to be his best game of the season so far. Payne had 15 off the bench, shooting six of 12 from the field. Payne looked like he actually belonged on the Thunder roster Thursday night. He’s been struggling all season long, but he now looks confident in his shot again. His hair is also looking absolutely fantastic. I think that’s why he played so well Thursday.

Steven Adams and his beautiful stache had another excellent game. He ended the night with 20 points, off nine of 14 from the field, and 13 boards. He’s still missing his other stache, but that stache will return soon.

Although Cleveland played their three stars, they didn’t have enough to take down Russell Westbrook and the Thunder. Thunder win 118 – 109.
