OSU gets their first win against Texas in Stillwater since 1997. For the readers who do not know my age, I was four last time OSU beat Texas in Stillwater. The game was defined by the offense and special teams play of the cowboys.
The game started with OSU going 75 yards on the first drive of the game for a touchdown. Barry Sanders had two nice carries on the drive, and the cowboys went for it on a fourth down to keep the drive alive. Justice Hill scored the touchdown on a 30-yard run. OSU was able to force a three and out on Texas’s first drive and on a beautiful pass from Mason Rudolph James Washington went 54 yards to take a 14-0 lead.
Texas was able to get the offense rolling with a 51-yard pass with Tyrone Swoopes punching it in from the two. Texas was able to get a three and out of their own against OSU. Texas went down and scored a touchdown and was an extra point away from tying the game and seizing momentum. Vincent Taylor blocks the extra point and makes the play of the game as he picks up the ball and pitches it as they take to the house and get two points making the game 16-13 Cowboys. By the end of the first quarter, both Justice Hill and D. Foreman both had over 40 yards of rushing.
The start of the second quarter Texas had momentum but had another two PAT attempts blocked. The drive of the game was right before halftime. OSU found themselves on a second and long backed up on their side of the field and Justice Hill got them the first down to keep the drive alive and a few plays later it was Rudolph to Jalen McClesky for 52 yards with 32 seconds left in the half taking a 37-25 lead. The last crucial play OSU made to seal the deal was in the third quarter with an interception ran back to Texas territory. Barry Sanders was able to punch it in from the one and that was the last touchdown scored by either team. James Washington did leave the game with a concussion.
- Vincent Taylor deserves the game ball. Yes, the offense had a great game but Taylor absolutely dominated the center from Texas. He had two blocked pat’s and if that wasn’t enough he also had a sack. Taylor is a great feel good story having to relocate after hurricane Katrina and it was great to see him have such a huge impact.
- Justice Hill is the real deal. 25 carries for 135 yards Justice has proven he is one of the top running backs in the big twelve. OSU fans have a right to be excited because he has been the best back since Kendell Hunter, which is crucial in the air raid offense OSU likes to run.
- Jalen McClesky is going to be a huge part of the offense. James Washington is a superstar and he will be in double coverage a large percentage of the time. OSU has been having McClesky run under routes and he is getting huge chunks of yards in the open field.
- Realize that the reason this game got out of hand was because D’Onta Foreman and Chris Warren got hurt. Not because OSU found a way to stop the run. OSU defensive line is still undersized and they need to figure a way to stop the run before they head to Norman to face the three-headed dragon.
